Monstera Albo – Description & Care Guide (AlansGarden)

🌿 Description

Monstera Albo (Monstera deliciosa ‘Albo Variegata’) is a stunning indoor plant prized for its white–green marbled variegation and large fenestrated leaves. Each leaf is unique—some display bold white patches while others have delicate speckled patterns. This variety grows as a climbing aroid, producing aerial roots and developing larger splits as it matures.
Its elegant variegation and rare appearance make it a collector’s favourite and a premium ornamental houseplant.

🌱 Care Guide

1. Light

  • Requires bright, indirect light for strong variegation.
  • Avoid harsh direct sun which can burn the white parts.
  • Too little light causes reduced variegation and slow growth.

2. Watering

  • Water when the top 2–3 inches of soil feel dry.
  • Keep soil moist but not soggy.
  • Overwatering can cause root rot, especially because white leaf portions lack chlorophyll.

3. Soil

  • Use a well-draining aroid mix:
    • Cocopeat or peat
    • Perlite
    • Orchid bark
    • A little compost
  • Good aeration keeps the roots healthy and fast-growing.

4. Humidity

  • Prefers 60–80% humidity.
  • Mist lightly or use a humidifier in dry areas.
  • Avoid water sitting on leaves for long periods.

5. Temperature

  • Ideal range: 18–28°C.
  • Keep away from cold drafts, AC vents, and sudden temperature changes.

6. Fertilizer

  • Feed once every 2–3 weeks during active growth (spring–monsoon).
  • Use a balanced liquid fertilizer (NPK 19:19:19 or 20:20:20) at half strength.
  • Avoid over-fertilizing variegated plants.

7. Support

  • Provide a moss pole or coco pole for climbing.
  • Supporting the plant helps create bigger, more fenestrated leaves.

8. Pruning & Propagation

  • Prune yellow or damaged leaves.
  • Propagate using stem cuttings with at least one node and variegation.
  • Use clean tools and allow the cutting to callous before rooting.

9. Common Problems

  • Brown edges: low humidity or underwatering
  • Yellowing leaves: overwatering
  • Faded variegation: low light
  • Leaf burn: direct sun
