🌿 Bromeliad Plant Care – Alans Garden
Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. A few hours of gentle morning sunlight is beneficial, but avoid harsh afternoon sun.
Watering: Water when the top layer of soil feels slightly dry. Keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Many bromeliads form a natural cup in the center—keep a small amount of clean water in the cup and refresh it regularly.
Soil: Use a loose, well-draining mix such as cocopeat, orchid bark, perlite, and a small amount of compost.
Humidity: Bromeliads enjoy moderate to high humidity. In dry conditions, occasional misting or a humidity tray can help.
Temperature: Keep between 18–30°C and protect from cold drafts and extreme heat.
Fertilizer: Feed with a diluted, balanced fertilizer once every 4–6 weeks during active growth. Avoid heavy fertilization.
Repotting: Bromeliads generally need little repotting. Repot only when the plant has outgrown its container or the growing medium has broken down.
Flowering & Pups: After flowering, the mother plant naturally declines while producing pups (offsets) around its base. Allow the pups to grow until they are about one-third to one-half the size of the mother plant before separating and planting them.
Important: Ensure good air circulation and avoid keeping the roots constantly wet, as this can cause root rot.
🌱 Alans Garden Tip: Bromeliads are relatively low-maintenance and make excellent indoor and balcony plants when provided with bright, filtered light and good drainage.
