Oncidiums (also called Dancing Lady Orchids) are elegant, hardy orchids that grow well in Indian tropical climates when given the right humidity and airflow.

🌞 Light

• Bright, indirect sunlight is ideal.
• Morning sun is good; avoid strong afternoon sun.
• Leaves should be light green — dark green indicates insufficient light.

Best placement: Near an east-facing window / bright shaded greenhouse.

💧 Watering

• Water once every 5–7 days in warm seasons.
• In monsoon or high humidity, water every 10–12 days.
• Let the medium slightly dry between waterings.
• Avoid water standing around pseudobulbs.

Signs:

• Wrinkled pseudobulbs → under-watering
• Mushy roots → over-watering

🌫️ Humidity

• Needs 50–70% humidity.
• Use pebble trays, mist lightly in mornings.
• Ensure airflow to prevent fungus.

🌡️ Temperature

• Ideal: 18–28°C
• Can tolerate heat up to 32°C with good airflow and humidity.

Night temperature drop helps flowering.

🌱 Potting Mix

Use a fast-draining mix:

• Medium or fine bark
• • perlite
• • a little sphagnum moss on top (optional)

Repot every 1.5–2 years, right after flowering.

🍃 Fertilizer

Apply every 2 weeks:

• Balanced orchid fertilizer (20-20-20)
• Or a bloom booster (3-12-6) during spike formation.

Use at 1/4th strength.

🌸 Flower Spike Care

• Don’t cut the spike until it turns fully brown.
• Support the spike with a stick if needed.
• After blooming, reduce fertilizer for 3–4 weeks to help plant rest.
